About this project

The Beck Family (Black American): Elevating a Business from the Ground Up
Client Profile: The Becks
Location: Roanoke, VA (But this is for their new small business location)
Family Status: The Becks are a dedicated entrepreneurial family opening a chic, modern hair salon and boutique in the heart of Roanoke.
Challenge: The raw commercial space had a decades-old, heavily worn VCT (Vinyl Composition Tile) floor that was peeling, unhygienic, and screamed “dilapidated office building.” They needed a sophisticated, durable, and highly marketable flooring solution that aligned with their brand’s upscale, professional image.
The Challenge: A Subpar Space Undermining a Premium Brand
The Becks were investing their life savings into their dream salon. Their brand identity was polished, modern, and high-end. The existing floor, however, was a major disconnect. The peeling, outdated tiles were a turn-off for potential clients walking by and a nightmare to clean with hair clippings and chemicals.
Their pain point was clear: the physical space was actively hurting their brand image and their ability to charge premium prices. They needed a floor that was a silent salesperson, contributing to the salon’s ambiance and communicating quality from the moment a client stepped inside.
Our Solution: A Chic, Seamless Epoxy Flake System
We needed a floor that was tough enough for heavy commercial traffic and resistant to hair dyes and chemicals, but looked amazing. We opted for a chip system with a specific color palette to match their branding.
VCT Abatement & Prep: The first major step was safely and efficiently removing the old, damaged VCT and mastic, followed by thorough concrete grinding.
Custom Flake Blend: We designed a custom chip blend featuring black, white, and subtle silver flakes, perfectly complementing the salon’s monochromatic logo and interior design scheme. This provided texture, visual interest, and critical anti-slip properties for a busy commercial environment.
Chemical-Resistant Topcoat: This was non-negotiable. We used a two-component, high-solids polyurethanetopcoat specifically engineered to resist staining and damage from common salon chemicals, dyes, and cleaners.
Seamless Application: The beauty of epoxy in a commercial setting is the seamless finish. There are no grout lines or seams to trap hair, dirt, or bacteria, making daily cleaning incredibly simple and hygienic.
The Results: A Foundation for Success
The salon opened with a floor that exceeded the Becks’ expectations, creating an immediate positive impression on every client.
Enhanced Brand Image: “The floor made our salon look instantly expensive and professional,” Mrs. Beck noted. “It aligns perfectly with our premium services.”
Operational Efficiency: The ease of cleaning has saved staff significant time every day, improving their operational efficiency.
Durability & Longevity: The Becks are confident their floor will handle the daily grind of a busy salon for years to come, protecting their initial investment.
Client Experience: The sophisticated ambiance created by the floor has contributed to a higher perceived value of their services, supporting their premium pricing strategy.
The Becks’ success story is about using the physical environment to reinforce brand promise and create a powerful competitive advantage. A superior floor is a superior business asset.
